For the first time, the presence of the mosquito-borne Zika virus detected in Kerala. About 12 of 19 samples shipped to the Institute of Virology in Pune within the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation limits have tested positive for Zika. The affected individuals are mostly the staff of a leading private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. Before confirming from the IOF Pune, the fest detection appeared for a 24-year-old pregnant woman treated in a private hospital in Parassala. The woman normally delivered on July 7, and the baby is doing fine.
Health authorities stated Zika infection could easily control by adequate rest. However, there is no antiviral treatment or vaccine to fight against the Zika virus at the moment.
