The Kerala government initiated an annual award for women in the title of Dakshayani Velayudhan, the first and solitary Dalit woman in the constituent Assembly.
State health minister KK Shailaja stated the honour would be bestowed for women who contribute for the women empowerment and those who uplift the marginalised among the community.
The honour carries one lakh cash prize, a citation and sculpture and would be presented on the International Women’s Day.
