The 111 km Sabari rail project was in pending even after Indian Railways approvals in 1998. Now the Kerala government has decided to bear 50 per cent cost of the construction based on a certain condition. It seems to bring some light to the project. About 2815 INR crore project would be mobilised through Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board. The terms are the Ministry of Railways should implement, operate and manage the rail line. The development of 20 railway stations and the proposed line should be carried out with different company with public-private participation.

The revenue through the project, minus expenditure should be equally shared between the Railways and state.
