MP Veerendra Kumar, Former Union Minister passes away

Former Union minister and Rajya Sabha MP from Kerala, M P Veerendra Kumar took his last breath on Thursday. He was 84. His depart of life was of cardiac arrest at a private hospital in Calicut.

Veerendra Kumar was the chairman and managing director of the Mathurbhimi Printing a Publishing Company Ltd. He was also holding key roles in other media includes of World Association of Newspapers and Press Trust of India.

The body will be moved to his hometown in Wayanad and the last rights will be taken over on Friday evening.

In 1987 he became a member of Kerala Assembly and minister of forests. However, he resigned from his minister post after 48 hours of posting. In 1996 and 2004 he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Calicut. In 1997-1998 Veerendra Kumar served as a minister of state in the Union finance ministry and minister of state with independent charge of labour ministry.

He was written about 20 books and has won numerous awards for his books. Survived by wife Usha and three children.
