Former President Pranab Mukherjee passes away

Former President Pranab Mukherjee was battling with various ailments along with COVID-19 infection passed away weeks after treatment at Delhi hospital. He was 84. Son Abhijit Mukherjee shares the news through Twitter.

A seven-day state mourning was announced by the Centre as a tribute to the admired political leader.
“As a mark of respect to the departed dignitary, seven days State Mourning will be observed throughout India from 31.08.2020 to 06.09.2020, both days inclusive,” the government said in a statement.

During the period of state mourning, the national flag will fly at half-mast at all buildings throughout the country wherever it is flown regularly and there will be no official entertainment, it added.

Mukherjee was under observation at the Army’s Research and Referral Hospital in Delhi Cantonment after an accident at his residence and had tested positive for coronavirus before his surgery which the injury required.

Mukherjee succeeded as President by Ram Nath Kovid. in 2019, Mukherjee has conferred the Bharat Ratna Award.
